Thanks, Jodi, this is so interesting and helpful! I started a Christmas Cherish quilt last year, but got a little overwhelmed. Iām currently working on an Evensong quilt with this method of rounds (vs one block at a time) and I really like it!! Eager to try that with the rest of my Cherish project, too. š„°šŖ”š
I love the batch making approach too. Itās going to make it much easier to take a little bit with me when Iām waiting around instead of a ton of F16s because I was choosing as I went.
Love the colours in your quilt under construction. Found I already had the pattern and a kit with all the paper pieces that Iād bought ages ago. Just need to choose fabric now.
I really enjoyed reading your process. So far Iāve only done scrappy hexis and the Katija Marek new hexagon quilt. I would like to do something organized and wasnāt sure how to start. Reading this has really helped!
Iād love to do a quilt kit like this..perhaps in my future!
Jodi, your Cherish quilt is gorgeous! I love how you explain the process you are using; well done! It gives me a strong desire to get out my EPP projects, but my summer is too busy for that. They will be waiting for me when the time is just right. š¤ Happy stitching!
Such a beautiful quilt. You definitely have skills and an eye for colors/patterns. I just received my first order from your shop before I left on vacation. I am looking forward to starting the project.
Thank you! I have been doing this all wrong. I started with a basic āthemeārather than the pallet: a story writerās thinking rather than a quilterās. I will have to set aside a couple of the ones I have already made now that I am looking for the colors rather than the subject.
So excited to start the 8ā Cherish quiltalong! Iām even thinking Christmas (what?? Already??).
IF (thatās a big IF) I actually settle on a fabric/palatteā¦. And I start with a fat eighths bundle⦠would one bundle of 32 different fabrics be a good start? Adding in solids as needed?
Iām so used to having total fabric requirements from a pattern, and I know I have to think free-er, but I still need my hand held sometimesā¦
Your process is very much like mine. (And I donāt think Iāve ever made a quilt without at least a little pink). I started picking my hexagons centres last night.
Your post this morning gave me the nod Iām on the right track. I decided to run with the smaller block and Iām glad I did since I can swap back and forth between hexie harvest to get the combination I like.
My stupid amount of fabric has me challenging myself not to use the same fabric twice in the same quilt. I have the same pattern in different colours appearing a few times for a bit of continuity though

So fun to read your color and fabric picking process :)

Iāve done that for mine. Mainly florals or āfloral adjacentā. Grab a few designers who work well together and make large florals then go!
I will definitely have to swap some out as I go, but I donāt mind
I look forward to seeing yours. Mine is florals as well.
Weāll see! I love wild and busy, but have trouble toning down when needed.
Iām not going to try too hard to ākeep upā. I want a portable project to take places
Your quilt is coming along beautifully! It gives a very "Spring" vibe, when everything's blooming so exuberantly. šµ
I bought the PDF the other night, and I'm now waiting for the templates and papers to make their way from Australia to California.
I'm not going to join the QAL, though. I want to finish my Garden Path quilt first. Hereās where you can see my progress pics:
