The Week before a Launch
Lavender & Twine is almost here!
The week before a pattern launch, my desk is always a mess. Fabric and paper pieces. hand written lists, some paper cranes my youngest made for me that I can’t quite get to stand up. My glasses case, my headphones case, a thank you card. Ok, maybe I can’t blame it on a launch. My desk is always like this until I can’t stand it any longer and tidy it up! That moment would probably be now if I didn’t have a long list of things to do before I bring Lavender & Twine to the shop next week. A tidy up would probably help me be more focussed and efficient, but I’m just not disciplined enough to make it happen. The other things are calling louder.
Lisa has almost finished the pattern in Canva, and I’m having another read through. There’s a couple of different ways this quilt can be constructed, and the one we’ve chose is the easiest and most straight forward, but I’ve put mine together the other way because it helped me spread out my colours. I need to decide whether to include it, or just write a blog post about it. (And I need to add that decision to my list, so I don’t forget!) Would you prioritise ease of stitching or ease of colour placement?
I’ve finished all my blocks and I’m completely smitten with them! I’ve roped in my 12 year old to take the paper pieces out for me. She’s keen for pocket money because she spent more than she’d saved up on our recent holiday, and I’m happy to pay her, because I’m feeling the time crunch. After the papers are out, I need to press and trim them, then cut sashing and sew them together. I’m really excited to see this all sewn up, even if I’m not very excited to press them all! Once the quilt top is sewn up, I need to baste and quilt it, bind it, and take photos for the pattern and next week’s newsletters.
My kids have spent the last couple of months cutting fabrics for starter kits, if you’d like to make a Lavender & Twine Quilt like mine! Making the bundles is a huge job that needs to be done by Monday so I can ship them down to Laura who cuts my EPP kits and ships everything off to you. I like it though, it’s simple and rhythmic and the feeling of progress as we shrink these piles is very satisfying.
Laura sent me the new EPP kit and it’s beautiful! And Free Spirit sent me this “City of Dreams” fabric by Monika Forsberg and it’s stunning. All I want to do it drop everything and baste these diamonds! But first, I want to cut all the fabric for this version and organise them into blocks to test the fabrics requirements on the pattern. I do love that part!
Free Spirit sent me enough fabric to give away a half yard bundle with a Lavender & Twine EPP kit! I’ll be announcing the giveaway on social media early next week, but if you want to get in early, all you have to do is be signed up for the Lavender & Twine QAL waitlist here:
Lavender & Twine is coming next Thursday (Wednesday evening if you’re in North America) and I’m so excited to share it with you. It’s a beautiful, traditional block turned into something new, but still keeping that vintage charm! I really hope you’ll join us when we sew it together from June.
See you Thursday!

Ooh it's so stunning, Jodi! I have always wanted to make one of these, Lavender & Twine, or Nosegay quilts. It just has something so incredibly special, romantic and magical about it, an instant heirloom!
Really looking forward to these kits!! 💐
Wow Jodi, you have so many things on the go, each of which can be rather time consuming. You are amazing! Regarding the pattern options you are considering - I think it would be handy to have your alternate construction choice listed within the pattern as an extra note. It's helpful to have extra tips from someone who has already made these blocks.
Take care and have a celebratory rest when time allows.
